I am an experienced knitter and have knit several Norwegian color work sweaters from several books. I am a hand knitter and thought I would make the blue cartigan on the front of this book. Well it is NOT meant for hand knitters. I do not know about machine knitters as I do not have one. It is definitely not for hand knitters. All the instructions are geared for the machine. The only thing you have for hand knitters is the charting. This book was a total waste of money if you are a hand knitter.Product details

I got this book for the exquisite patterns (charts) in it. I don't have disk capability with my machine knitting, but I do have 24-stitch and 60-stitch patterning. With that, I am able to use many of the wonderful design charts in Ms. Waterhouse's book. I already have several picked out and look forward to incorporating them into my next few projects. They are just beautiful!

What great patterns! I looked for Nordic knitting patterns while I was in Sweden a few years back, and nothing I saw compares to this book. Full page charts and the spiral binding make the patterns easy to read and knit. I knit on a Bond ISM (a non-electric, manually manipulated machine) and these patterns look even better in bulky weight yarn, IMHO.
Not for newbies to Fair Isle knitting, but a rewarding challenge for intermediate to advanced knitters looking for beautiful knitted patterns to wear or give as gifts.

This book even in the title says for hand knitters, yet all instructions are for the knitting machine!! NO WAY IT CAN BE USED FOR HAND KNITTERS!!
The price of the wool precluded this pattern being used.
Phyllis Waterhouse is a long time Machine Knitter and I'm sure many long time knitters will remember her. If you like Norwegian style sweaters which are always in fashion and are up for the challenge, then this is the book for you.
