I have known Alice for over 7 years as her insurance agent. Every time she comes into the office she is such a joy. She always has a life story to share. I remember telling her a few years ago that she should write a book. When she said that she had already planned to do so, I was not surpirsed. She is a person who always seems to be anticipating the next adventure. Some of these advertures find her and others she pursues intentionally.
About a month ago, Alice came into the office with her book in hand. This was on a Friday afternoon. I went home and read half of the book Friday night and the other half Saturday night. It was so very interesting - sometimes sad, sometimes humorous, but always intriguing. I can't imagine how a child could grow up with the challenges that she experienced and accomplish all that she has in her lifetime (I can't wait for books 2 and 3!). This is truly an inspirational biography that I know will encourage all who read it. Life may try to knock you down, but Alice is proof that you can get up and not allow disappointments to steal your dreams.
I thoroughly enjoyed this RIVETING READ! I had to keep reminding myself that this was a TRUE story about the life of Alice, a girl who from a VERY young age, was EXTREMELY DETERMINED AND MOTIVATED to make a better life for herself; it was NOT fiction! It was a touching, heart wrenching, story that included a bit of humor as well, as you see how the intelligent Alice, handled her ignorant parents, and other "roadblocks" that would keep her from achieving her education and the way out of poverty. I'm looking forward to the sequel! BRAVO!!!!!!
When I read this book a few years ago, it was on a cold January morning. I remember thinking how fortunate I was to be sitting on a nice soft comfortable couch surrounded by pillows feeling so cozy and warm as I was reading about a little girl who was cold, hungry and wondering if that day, January the 7th was her birthday due to no mention of it nor was there any type of celebration at all, not even a slice of cake. I felt so sorry for this sweet little child who was an innocent victim of her given circumstances with no hope of ever getting out of this deep hole. It was only through her own common sense and faith in the education system at such a young age that she was able to use her own God given power to overcome the obstacles of her early life.
From a Hole So Deep is most certainly a fascinating adventure in life presented by Alice Formon. Her perseverance ceases to amaze me and her methodical wisdom and determination rise above incredible odds from early childhood to the courageous and charming lady she has become. Alice inspires all those who know her as she gives unstintingly of herself. She has an uncanny way of flipping the impossible into a creditable happening. Her book is one of truth and is a beacon of light in today’s turbulent world. Her fashion of writing is a masterpiece of “storytelling” that touches the heart. A fantastic read.

This is an excellent book! What a surprise to receive it in large print.
This was a very interesting book. It's very hard to put down when you start reading it. The book tells the story of how a very poor young girl fought all through her childhood to better herself. She knew how important an education was and had to do everything she could do to stay in school despite the constant threatening of her parents to take her out of school, Her strong determination to make the best of the constant discouragement she faced is very inspiring. I highly recommend this book.
The little girl in this story just captivates your heart! She is born into a poor uneducated family yet she yearns for something better and knows that getting an education is the way out. There is sadness, anger, tears & determination in her story - once you start reading it you won’t be able to stop. I bought this book for my daughters and they loved it too! Now I’m waiting anxiously for Alice Forman’s next book about her journey “From A Hole So Deep”.
